White Down Silver Needle is a perfect tea for summer. Lighter than other teas, Silver Needle is just right for sipping on warm days and also makes a wonderful, light bodied but full flavored, iced-tea. Fresh citrus fruits, pineapple, herbs such as mint and basil, and even berries can be used to garnish Silver Needle iced-tea.
The name White Down Silver Needle derives from the fine silvery-white hairs that are on the unopened buds of the tea plant. Beautiful to look at, this tea is exquisite when presented dry before steeping. When serving tea for guests at home, we like to present a bunch of the dry leaves in a small dish as a part of the tea service so that our guests can see, touch and smell the leaves.
Speaking of guests, we are headed out to the garden now to harvest herbs to garnish the ice-tea that we are serving tonight for an al fresco dinner party. The menu includes grilled fish and vegetables and yogurt and fruit parfait – foods that pair well with White Down Silver Needle. Send us an e-mail and let us know how you are preparing and serving white teas.
